About the Falcon Watch

Version française

The Ottawa Field-Naturalists’ Club’s Peregrine Falcon Watch was established when a pair first nested at the Citadel Inn (now the Delta Ottawa City Centre) in 1997. They nested there every year until at least 2014. However, they have not produced chicks there since 2009, and we have not been able to confirm a nest there in 2015.

In the meantime, a second pair began nesting at the CRA Data Centre on Heron Rd. as early as 2011. We became aware of them in 2012 and have been monitoring that nest ever since. As Peregrines recover from near-extirpation in North America, they have established other nests in the Ottawa area, but these locations are either unknown or in natural areas where we cannot effectively monitor them.
