It was quite a site watching Amelia keeping her eyes on her parents in the sky no matter where they were in relation to her position. At one point they were in the sky behind her. Her body was facing toward us but her head was turned right around and crooked up toward her mother who was hanging in the sky like a kite. She was stationary riding an air current. Kinda like saying “look what you can do”. How awesome is that?!!!
Another time, one of the parents went in for a landing on the south east corner of the roof. It was very windy and so planting a landing was tricky. What I saw next was incredible. I call it the nano second dive. In order to decrease altitude to get to the roof, the bird did a very quick dive (like for a nano second) in and upside down M shape in order to get close enough to the roof to quickly right back up and plant a landing. Very, very awesome!
Sometimes I also wonder if they are putting on a bit of a show for us as well.
I remember last year once the chicks were flying the three chicks and an adult were riding the wind currents off the roof like kites as well. They really do things for fun. It must be so awesome to be a Peregrine Falcon!
